Maputo, Mozambique – A combined team from the NEPAD Agency and East, Central and Southern Africa Health Community (ECSA-HC), and the Government of Mozambique have identified areas that require Technical Assistance (TA) for the successful implementation of the Southern Africa Tuberculosis and Health Systems Support (SATBHSS) project in 2017 to strengthen health systems and tackle the burden of TB.
The two teams also aligned the national annual SATBHSS project national work plan for Mozambique with regional work plan and agreed on the kind of TA and support required with clearly defined roles, responsibilities and timelines.
Prior to this working session, the team paid a courtesy call to the Permanent Secretary (PS), for the Ministry of Health of Mozambique, Dr Zacarias Zindoga. The PS welcomed the team and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to the successful implementation of this project. He said that the Ministry of Health is responsible for coordinating other Ministries that will participate in the implementation of the project at national level and they are relying on NEPAD Agency and ECSA to provide technical support to successfully meet the objectives of the project.
“The technical support offered by NEPAD Agency and ECSA-HC is commendable and will help to facilitate the successful implementation of the planned activities,” Dr Zindoga said.
The session took place at the Ministry of Health (MoH) of Mozambique from 27 – 28 March 2017 and was attended by officials from the Ministry of Labour and Ministry of Mines and Natural Resources in line with the multisectoral approach of the SATBHSS project in tackling the burden of TB. After the launch of the project in December 2016, the responsible teams at national and regional level are now holding exclusive meetings to review work plans and reach a common understanding of how to steer the project in the right direction.
